The MG SA

In 1935, the MG car company launched development on the model that would become known as the SA, a larger platform built to receive spacious four-place coachwork to round out the product line of a company already well known for their sports and racing models. Following the company’s amalgamation with Morris Motors in 1935, the production car, the largest MG ever designed, debuted in 1936 – initially as the more familiar saloon – and was equipped with a Morris-sourced 2.3-litre six-cylinder engine. The car provided MG with a worthy competitor to the offerings of Lagonda, SS and Alvis. Within months of its release, the versatile SA model was also offered with coachwork by Charlesworth as an open tourer, and by Tickford as a three-position drop head.
