This beautiful Ferrari 365 GTC Coupe epitomizes the kind of fast grand routier favored by the 1960s Jet Set. The 365 was a development of the 330 GTC, itself part of a range of more luxury-focused models from 1967 that took up where the famous 250 Lusso had left off in 1964. The two-seater GTC used the big four-liter V-12 from the 330 GT 2-plus-2, but with the shorter chassis of the 275 GTS: perfect for Ferrari clientele demanding high performance without sacrificing luxury. To that end, the GTC benefited greatly from fully independent rear suspension, but also introduced a raft of measures to boost refinement as much as performance: the engine and transaxle were fitted to the car using special vibration-damping mounts, and particular attention was paid to reducing noise inside the cabin.

During the latter part of 1968, Ferrari replaced the 330 GTC with the 365 GTC, premiering the car at the 1969 Geneva Auto Show. Although the 365 looked very similar, the big news was under the bonnet, where the Colombo V-12 grew to 4.4 liters, thanks to an increase in cylinder bore to 81 mm from 77 mm. This not only raised the peak power output to 320 hp, but also benefited mid-range torque, taking the big Ferrari’s top speed to over 150 mph.

According to a report compiled by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini, this 365 GTC, chassis 12325, left the Ferrari factory on May 16, 1969, and was delivered new to official Ferrari dealer Dino Ravasio and Sons of Verona, who quickly sold it to Piero Moretti, a resident of Milan. Sig. Moretti owned the car for around six years, notably changing its color from the original Giallo (yellow) to the Blu Metallizzato hue it wears to this day, but retaining the black leather interior. He also sent the car back to Modena for engine revisions in 1973. Two years later, it left his custodianship for a new life with Gerhard Keller in Switzerland, with around 50,000 km showing.

After only a year with its second owner, 12325 passed to a Swiss doctor, Urs Bänninger, whose ownership would last for the next 25 years. During this time major works such as a cylinder-head overhaul and a front suspension rebuild formed part of a healthy maintenance regime, all meticulously documented in the car’s history file. The current owner purchased the GTC in 2014, gaining Ferrari’s prestigious Classiche certification and maintaining it appropriately with notable specialists such as GTO Engineering, who rebuilt the transaxle and suspension and fitted new tires in 2013 and then fully serviced the GTC in June 2016. These two invoices alone total over £27,000 ($34,000) and stand as a testament to the well-loved Ferrari’s care and feeding in recent years.

Offered today with a lovely, patinated original interior and an overall friendly and solid look and feel, this 365 GTC has never been comprehensively restored, a point from which the car greatly benefits. The dossier accompanying the car provides thorough evidence of the Ferrari’s past ownership and care, in addition to containing a desirable Ferrari Classiche Red Book. This important document was issued on October 22, 2014, and certifies that the GTC retains its original engine and transaxle.
