Safra Fountain Court, one of the most architecturally stunning courtyards in central London. Somerset House is considered one of the key cultural destinations and one of London’s most spectacular and cherished buildings. Its 18th century grandeur and unrivalled location near the River Thames makes this stunning neo-classical building probably the biggest community of creative organisations in London.

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Gooding & Company’s “Passion of a Lifetime” auction, scheduled for 1 April 2020, at Somerset House in London, UK, has been postponed until further notice. Nothing is more important than protecting the health and well-being of Gooding & Company’s clients, staff, and families. During this time, Gooding & Company remains open for business and encourages clients to reach out to car specialists and Gooding staff as our team continues to advise on private sales and collection holdings, as well as prepare for our upcoming auctions.

Event Location:

London’s historic and majestic Somerset House will provide a superb backdrop for the vehicles in this unique auction. This 18th-century neoclassical building is one of London’s best-loved public spaces, and a global platform showcasing groundbreaking contemporary culture. The auction will take place on The Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court. Located near the River Thames, entrance to the site is recommended from Strand, but also available from Waterloo Bridge and River Terrace (Ground Level), or Embankment (Lower Ground Level).

Filming and photography are not permitted during the event.

Specialty coffee, food, and drinks are available for purchase at any of the cafes or restaurants within Somerset House, please visit their website.

Cloakrooms:

There are no cloakroom or luggage storage facilities at Somerset House.

Arrival by Car:

Somerset House sits within the Congestion Charge zone. Parking is not available at Somerset House, and there is minimal street parking nearby. The closest car park is located at London Covent Garden. Parking spaces can be pre-booked at ncp.co.uk.

Arrival by Rail or London Underground:

The nearest Underground stations are Temple (Circle & District lines), Covent Garden (Piccadilly line), and Charing Cross (Bakerloo & Northern lines) and can be reached on foot in less than 10 minutes. The nearest rail stations are Charing Cross, Blackfriars, and Waterloo, which can be reached on foot within 15 minutes.

Arrival by River:

The nearest River Bus stop is at Embankment Pier, only a five-minute walk to the event site. The following lines stop there: RB1, RB2, and RB6.

Conditions of Sale

Prior to registering to bid, each prospective bidder must read the Conditions of Sale carefully. The Conditions of Sale, together with the Important Notices, Bidder Registration Form, and Absentee and Telephone Bidder Registration Form (collectively hereinafter referred to as “General Conditions”), as the General Conditions may be expressly amended by written Saleroom Addenda or announced by a Gooding UK, LLC (“Gooding”) representative or the Auctioneer during the Auction constitute the sole and entire terms and agreement between Gooding and the Seller, on the one hand, and Buyer, on the other hand, under which Gooding will offer and sell as agent for the Seller the vehicles (the “Vehicles”) in this Auction and concerning the respective parties’ rights and obligations with regard to the matters addressed herein. By registering to bid or placing a bid at this Auction – whether in person, through an agent or representative, by absentee bid, by telephone bid, or by otherwise attending or participating in the Auction – each bidder, Buyer and person so attending or participating represents, warrants and covenants to and with Gooding that such bidder, Buyer or person attending or participating, as the case may be, has reviewed, understands, and accepts and agrees to be, and is, bound by all the General Conditions, particularly the paragraphs labelled “Limitation on Damages” and “As Is – No Warranty,” which set forth Gooding’s obligation and maximum liability in the event of loss or damage to any bidder, Buyer or attendee. Each bidder, Buyer and attendee, by participating in this Auction, recognizes that he or she does so by choice and thus voluntarily agrees to these General Conditions.

The General Conditions, including the Conditions of Sale, are also printed in the Auction catalogue and will be available at the Auction venue.
