Henry Ford’s legendary Model T, introduced in fall 1908, is undoubtedly the most influential and versatile American automobile of all time. The model’s proven mechanicals form the foundation of the custom Torpedo Speedster offered here, a unique body style vastly different from the production Touring and Runabout. The restorer of this beautiful Model T took his inspiration from the venerable Mercer Raceabout and recently spent four years restoring the chassis and constructing the sporting coachwork.

Designed with easy driving in mind, mechanical improvements include a later engine with a forged, counter-balanced crankshaft; a high-lift camshaft with oversized valves; and high-volume intake and exhaust manifolds. Other upgrades include Kevlar transmission bands and incorporation of a later Model T rear axle with the larger brakes. Ensuring ease of use are a 12-volt alternator, electric starter, and tail and stoplights for safety. The stock 1911 hood and fenders are enhanced with a body constructed of wood, covered in aluminum with brass and cherry wood trim. The Speedster is finished in Carmine Red, complemented by black moldings and gold striping.

This Speedster has been driven approximately 3,000 miles since restoration, ranging from low-speed parade participation to cruising in excess of 50 mph. Combining the best Model T mechanicals with highly attractive coachwork, this custom Speedster is a perfect entry into the exciting world of Brass Era motoring.
