The first generation of Lincoln’s renowned Continental, available in Coupe and Convertible form, ended with the 1948 model year, capping Edsel Ford’s vision for a top-of-the-line production model equipped with custom coachwork looks. Originally priced at $4,746, the V-12-powered Continental was far more expensive and exclusive than its competitors. Convertible production totaled just 452 examples in 1948, including this car, and very few remain, with just 37 currently listed in the current CCCA roster.

Owners enjoyed an enviable combination of traditional styling, smooth 12-cylinder power, and modern convenience features including power windows and convertible top. Driving ease at high speeds was accomplished via a simple-to-engage Borg-Warner overdrive mechanism. This example, lovingly restored by previous owner Bill Jones, is finished in Lincoln’s stunning Regal Blue, complemented by a light tan canvas convertible top and an interior upholstered in dark blue leather. It carries CCCA senior badge no. 2425 by virtue of winning First Place at the club’s 50th annual meeting in 2002. Purchased by the consignor in 2003, this Lincoln is equipped with both a radio and heater, and is accompanied by extensive receipts from the past 15 years.

This Convertible is equally at home on the road, where its 12-cylinder flexibility can be enjoyed, as well as the show field, and exemplifies that Continental flair and the pleasure of open motoring.
