With athletic bodylines and the powerful new DOHC XK engine, Jaguar’s XK120 instantly assumed iconic status from its 1948 London Motor Show debut. Competition success was swift and its prowess was confirmed by Ron Sutton’s 132 mph blast in a lightly modified example on a Belgian highway in 1949. A huge boost to Britain’s postwar economy, the XK120 went on to sire a sporting dynasty including Jaguar’s five Le Mans victories in the 1950s. Simply put, no collection is complete without an example of the XK120 – the model that started it all.
Resplendent in Old English White and red leather, this final-year XK120 Roadster from 1954 is the product of a body-off-frame restoration performed in 2011 to concours-level standards by David Villalovos of Littleton, Colorado’s Mountainview Auto Restoration. In testament to its quality, this XK120 won the 2012 JCNA Western Regional Championship with a score of 99.65 out of 100 points possible. The XK120 also earned People’s Choice and First Place (Class C2) honors at the September 2012 JCSC Concours d’Elegance, scoring 99.49 points on that outing. In addition to a set of restored side curtains, the XK120 is equipped with a stainless-steel dual-outlet exhaust system, and proper 54-spoke chrome wire wheels. Continuing to benefit from its multiple-award-winning restoration, it is a wonderful example of one of the finest and most influential sporting cars of all time.
