1957 Ford Thunderbird

The Thunderbird debuted for the 1955 model year as Ford’s groundbreaking “personal car.” Two years later, it received new performance options as well as a substantial styling revision, including an extended tail with slanted fins; larger taillights; simpler bumper design; and subtle side sculpting. Of the more than 21,000 built, this stunning Thunderbird is one of fewer than 1,500 E-Code examples featuring the 270 hp engine with twin 4-barrel carburetors. Retailed through L.J. Snow Ford, in Colton, California, this car was equipped with nearly every factory option available, including power steering, brakes, and windows, Dial-A-Matic memory seat, fender skirts, and tonneau cover. It is finished in its original and highly sought-after color combination of Dusk Rose over an all-white interior, and features an unusual non-porthole hardtop in addition to the optional soft top.

Part of Jerry Capizzi’s renowned Cappy Collection in Southern California for many years, this stunning “E-Bird” amassed 11 First Place finishes at Classic Thunderbird Club International (CTCI) and AACA regional and national meets between 1988 and 2005. In 2006, the Thunderbird joined the consignor’s collection of concours-level postwar sports cars and has since received regular care and exercise, as well as the occasional local show outing. It stands today as one the of the finest and most desirably equipped examples of its kind, and is poised to return to CTCI competition or a spotlight position in an upscale collection.
