At the 1958 Moroccan Grand Prix at Casablanca, Phil Hill allowed his Scuderia Ferrari teammate Mike Hawthorn to pass him toward the end of the race, so that Hawthorn finished 2nd and Hill placed 3rd. With this result, Mike Hawthorn won the 1958 World Championship. In a post-race interview, Hawthorn told the press, "I've accomplished what I set out to do in becoming the first British Champion and, in quitting, let me make a prediction: the combination of Phil Hill and Ferrari will be heard from over the coming seasons. I think Phil has an excellent chance of becoming World Champion - if his luck doesn't run out." This lot includes Hill's 3rd place trophy and a selection of letters and telegrams from Scuderia Ferrari regarding this important race. Trophy: 5.5" x 13".
