Conceived in the 1930s as a simple and economical automobile to mobilize the German population, the VW Type 1 was designed by a team led by a young Ferdinand Porsche. The government funded and oversaw the project from the highest levels. With over 21 million cars produced between 1938 and 2003, the Beetle is the longest-running and most-produced vehicle in history.

This outstanding 1958 Beetle is from a year that saw many updates to the iconic VW’s design, ranging from a new rectangular rear window to a larger windscreen. 451,526 examples of the 1958 model are thought to have been produced, nearly 70,000 more than in 1957. Finished in a gorgeous blue with gray and blue interior, the VW here is thought by the consignor to retain the majority of its original finish, and the approximately 11,000 miles shown on the odometer are believed to be original. This Beetle deserves serious consideration as a rare example of preservation of a model beloved for its ability to be driven for decades.
