*Please note that this vehicle is titled as a Fiat.
This beautifully presented Bianchina was imported through Bowers Imports in Chicago and was among the approximately 1,500 that were sold new in the US. It made its first home with Virgil Campbell of Omaha, Nebraska, in September 1959. Within a few years, Mr. Campbell sold the car to his fellow Nebraskan and close friend, “Doc” Elsner of Crete. Mr. Elsner was a noted local car enthusiast and welcomed the little Trasformabile into his collection, displaying it in his carpeted showroom.
In the Elsner family’s care, the Bianchina was driven only short distances twice a year, but was run on a regular basis. It was kept in excellent cosmetic condition, and refinishing was performed only as necessary. After more than 50 years with the Elsner family, the Bianchina was acquired by the consignor in 2016.
Under its present ownership, the car has been masterfully brought to a concours level of preservation, rather than restoration, with great care having been taken not to disturb the original feel of the car. Fastidiously clean on an uncommon level, the car exudes an integrity that only an unrestored car can, and close inspection is welcomed. As restored examples of these upmarket Italian charmers are added to the finest collections around the world, this one proudly displays an authentic personality all its own.
