Introduced in 1957 and named after the ancient road leading from Rome to Ariminum, the Flaminia was an evolution of the Lancia’s well-established Aurelia concept, which also made use of a smooth-running V-6 engine, De Dion rear suspension, and rear-mounted four-speed transaxle. The Flaminia’s most notable departures from its predecessor were its modern double-wishbone front suspension and four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes. Initially, offered in two Pinin Farina-designed body styles, Lancia debuted two new variations of the Flaminia in 1958: the Touring-bodied GT and the Zagato-bodied Sport. Constructed from lightweight aluminum, the streamlined Sport featured stylish covered headlamps, a prominent central hood scoop, and Zagato’s signature “double-bubble” roofline.

This Flaminia 2500 Sport is particularly notable for its unusually well-preserved and largely original condition. A highly sought-after pre-series example, it is one of only 99 such cars built before Zagato revised the design with a more conventional open headlamp treatment. Finished in the elegant shade of Grigio Newmarket (Newmarket Gray), this Lancia is believed to have spent the majority of its existence in Milan. In the hands of the current owner, the Flaminia Sport participated in the challenging Tour Auto Optic 2000, where it demonstrated its remarkable ability to cover great distances in comfort and style. The Flaminia Sport’s attractive Zagato coachwork, impressive dynamic abilities, brilliant engineering, and inherent exclusivity are qualities that have earned the model a reputation as a connoisseur’s car – the epitome of the thinking man’s high-performance Italian GT.
