This superlative example of the D’Ieteren-bodied 356 B Roadster has been beautifully restored and uniquely upgraded in the true spirit of the marque’s enjoyment of modified examples. Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, chassis no. 89427 completed restoration in 2013 with a mandate of upgraded performance and cosmetics in the correct Porsche aesthetic. This work included mechanical upgrades from the 912 and cosmetic enhancements resembling the venerable Carrera GS/GT.
The body was stripped to bare metal and refinished in Slate Gray, while the interior was reupholstered with green leather and tan square-weave carpet. Complemented with a matching green cloth top, the 356 was treated to subtle modifications in the Carrera style, including a louvered engine lid, center dual exhaust, and lightweight bumper trim.
Performance was upgraded with the ultimate evolution of the classic flat-four motor, sourced from a 912. The more reliable and higher-revving engine is supplemented with a 912-style suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. Documented with invoices and photographs, this thoughtfully executed 356 B “Outlaw” Roadster would be welcomed at numerous events and Porsche-specialist club meetings, where its performance upgrades and tasteful presentation will surely draw the envy of any Zuffenhausen enthusiast.
