Formerly the Property of Benny Caiola
This fine example of the beloved Duetto enjoyed care from an acclaimed collector of Italian performance cars and was the recipient of a faithful restoration. In early 2009, this car was acquired by the late Benedetto “Benny” Caiola, the self-made Manhattan real estate developer who devoted much of his life to collecting the best cars of his native Italy, including some of Ferrari’s most desirable contemporary models.
When purchased by Mr. Caiola, the Alfa had been restored to a very high standard, displaying excellent overall mechanical and cosmetic quality. During its stay in his supreme collection, the car was faithfully maintained and stabled with some of Maranello’s greatest supercars.
Acquired by the consignor in recent years, the Spider was displayed in a private museum and exhibited occasionally at local events. In preparation for its presentation at auction, the Alfa Romeo has been thoroughly tested and tuned – including a full compression test of the dual overhead cam four-cylinder engine – by Radical Motorsports, whose technicians are experts in the care of fine automobiles and race cars. This Duetto is assured by the consignor to be mechanically and cosmetically “perfect,” and features a beautifully detailed engine compartment, as well as a fresh soft top and boot.
With the value of earlier Alfa Romeo Spiders beginning to accelerate in recent years, the Duetto should follow suit, making this a wonderful opportunity to acquire a strong example ahead of the appreciation curve. Accompanied by owner’s manuals, a tool kit, and jack, this charming Duetto Spider is a beautifully prepared example of one of Alfa Romeo’s most influential models that has attained a unique status as a popular icon.
