1967 Fiat Dino 2000 Spider

In 1967, Ferrari focused its attention on Formula 2 competition but lacked the production capability to meet the homologation requirement of building 500 two-liter engines. An alliance with Fiat resulted in the alloy-engined, Dino- badged 2000 Spider, with brilliant Pininfarina styling, which clearly channeled its predecessor – the 1965 Ferrari Dino 206 GT prototype. Only 1,133 examples of the original Dino 2000 Spider were built. Despite its relatively modest two-liter displacement, the Fiat’s performance was exceptional, with 0–60 mph in the mid-seven-second range and a top speed of 130 mph.

This Fiat Dino, in its Giallo Fly (Fly Yellow) paint with black interior and top, was formerly owned by Robert Willis of Illinois, who in 2008 entrusted Euro-Tec Motors of Livingston, New Jersey, to carry out a full engine rebuild – to the tune of $14,000. It was then sold to Doug Metzker of Portland, Oregon, who commissioned further mechanical and cosmetic work in 2010, and a year later had the Fiat Dino completely repainted. The current owner exhibited this rare Italian jewel at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in 2015 and successfully completed the Copperstate 1000 rally in 2016.

This wonderful mid-century Italian sports car – with its high-revving twin-cam engine, Pininfarina silhouette, and vivid Fly Yellow livery – offers an exhilarating driving experience and represents tremendous value when compared to machines of similarly noble heritage.
