This exceptional Corvette 427/435 Roadster was enjoyed and dutifully maintained by its original owner, J. Rodney Wilson of Portage, Michigan, for over 45 years. In 1969, Mr. Wilson ordered his car through Gencoyer Brothers Chevrolet in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and specified soft ray glass, headrests, AM/FM push-button radio, power windows, power steering, power brakes, and transistor ignition.
Finished in the attractive one-year-only color of Riverside Gold with a black interior and black convertible top, this Corvette was one of a limited number of 1969 models built with the desirable L71 427/435 engine coupled to an optional three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic Automatic Transmission and 3.36:1 Positraction rear end.
Throughout his long-term ownership, Mr. Wilson used his car sparingly and kept meticulous records. As a result, this rare Corvette remains in outstanding original order and the consignor reports that it is a true survivor, with wellpreserved factory finishes and rarely seen details. Beyond its excellent unrestored condition, the Corvette is supported by an impressive file of documentation that includes Mr. Wilson’s “made for” dash plaque, the original window sticker, title, and Protect-O-Plate warranty card.
Provenance, specification, and condition make this a very special Corvette Roadster, one that is sure to appeal to the discerning collector with a passion for original, unrestored automobiles.
