1969 was a real transition year for the Shelby GT350, from its origins as a bare-bones sports car to a true muscle car with all the amenities the buying public demanded in period. Some notable body modifications were made to the GT350 in 1969, such as the addition of fiberglass front fenders, a smart looking wraparound front bumper, and shortened tail with integrated rear spoiler and center exhaust. A multitude of scoops were also added, some functional and some decorative, culminating in a very aggressive look and feel.
This Shelby GT350, number 40 of 1,085 units produced in 1969, was originally sold by Hysen-Johnson Ford of San Luis Obispo, California, and has reportedly remained with California owners ever since. It is finished in a very attractive color combination of Royal Maroon with Gold stripes over a Black Deluxe Interior Package, and complimented by teak accents, black carpeting, and glove box with Carroll Shelby’s signature. The 351 Windsor powerplant was mated to an FMX Cruise-O-Matic transmission and coupled with an optional Traction-Lok rear axle; a full list of equipped options can be seen on the Shelby order form included with the sale. Purchased by the consignor in 1991 as a stablemate to his GT500, the GT350 was sympathetically restored to a high standard over the next few years. In 2005, it secured a 1st Place win at the Shelby American Automobile Club event held at California Speedway, a true badge of honor for any Shelby owner. It has been driven and shown sparingly ever since.
