Like the 300 SL, the Mercedes-Benz 280 SE Coupe was exquisitely crafted and engineered. Sporting gorgeous styling and a distinctive roofline highlighted by curved rear glass, the 280 SE was the final word in understated sophistication. Presenting in its original color of Silver Gray Metallic (DB 180), this is a well- optioned example that makes a highly attractive presentation.
The W111 range debuted in 1959, featuring unibody construction. In 1969, the alloy M116 V-8 engine became available, delivering 230 bhp. The consignor says the car was ordered new by a Mercedes-Benz executive in Germany, and according to its factory records, it was specified with a sunroof, fog lamps, and a floor shift. In 1979, this 280 SE moved on to an owner in Japan. Carrying the registration 33-4491 and based in the Tokyo area, documentation shows the 280 SE was being used and cared for, with servicing done by Mercedes-Benz authorized agents.
Recently brought to the US, this 280 SE Coupe remains a wonderful example today, retaining its gorgeous European-specification headlights. Its stunning woodgrain dash was recently refurbished. Accompanied by a copy of its factory data card, this Coupe represents a compelling opportunity to acquire one of Stuttgart’s most elegant models.
