Correctly finished in Tobacco Brown (DB 423) three-stage paint over proper MB-Tex Cognac upholstery, this beautiful 280 SL was well appointed from the factory and continues to offer a quality of ft, finish, and detail rarely seen in late-production Pagodas. Great care and consideration were taken while preserving this 280 to ensure its correctness, as it retains factory spot welds and body number stampings. The car also features Frigiking air-conditioning, a Becker Europa radio, a factory hardtop with garnish moldings, Coco floor mats, headrests, one-piece hubcaps, and an automatic transmission.
This Pagoda’s overall presentation showcases dutiful care. Recently receiving new engine-cooling system components, steering linkage, plugs, points, and realignment, this Mercedes-Benz benefits from a freshened interior, including factory-specified seatbacks and bottom cushions. In addition to the factory hardtop, this highly accessorized Pagoda is further accompanied by tools, including the rare Kaco trouble light, a top stand, a picnic basket, owner’s manual, and parts book.
Having successfully completed the 2013 Copperstate 1000, this remarkably authentic 280 SL can further impress at regional Mercedes-Benz corrals and concours with equal aplomb. The consignor reports that the undercarriage, engine bay, and luggage compartment are highly detailed. The interior is similarly well preserved, and is believed to retain a majority of its original upholstery. To put it simply, this is a wonderful example of the highly sought after 280 SL.
