Mercedes-Benz launched the 113 Series cars with the 230 SL in 1963, featuring Paul Bracq’s iconic “pagoda” roof. By 1971, 49,812 examples of the 113 Series had been sold. The 1967–71 280 SL models were the fastest and most popular.

This desirable 280 SL is an exceptional 82,000-mile car. A fully documented major refurbishment was completed by Blackhorse Automotive Services in November 2016. Presenting beautifully, it is finished in Medium Red (DB 576 G) color, with Becker Europa radio, and black M-B Tex interior, as delivered. A fresh Haartz cloth top is paired with a factory hardtop, with heated rear window. The car features several of the most sought-after 280 SL options: air-conditioning, power steering and power brakes, a four-speed manual gearbox, and a limited-slip differential. Of the 830 280 SLs sold in the US in 1971, an estimated 135 had four-speed gearboxes, and about 10% of those had air-conditioning. Fewer than 10 are believed to have both tops and the red/ black combination.

The consignor reports he is the third owner of this rare Pagoda, which was sold new by the Keeler Motor Car Company, a Mercedes-Benz dealership in New York. This car retains its original manuals, build card, tools, and jack. Late-build 280 SLs are seldom found with manual gearboxes, and many enthusiasts agree that the character of the car is greatly improved. This charming and sporty Pagoda offers an enviable driving experience for any automotive enthusiast.
