This 911 T was sold new in mid-1970 to a young government contractor. He opted to take delivery of his dream car in Europe, so he struck a deal for this 911 T, which was in inventory at the Porsche dealership in Dublin, Ireland, and then shipped it to his native Virginia. Finished in Tangerine (Code 2323) with an unusual beige leatherette interior, this 911 T is particularly striking, and features a dogleg pattern 5-speed transaxle, a rare option for the model. Documenting its extremely low mileage, registration cards chronicle the vehicle’s light use. Only 14,983 miles are registered on the odometer of this astonishingly original 911 T at the time of cataloguing.
In January 2016, after nearly 46 years under one owner and more than 33 years in storage, the car was sold to the consignor and rolled out into the Virginia sunlight. With the exception of the air in its original tires, the Porsche is presented exactly as discovered, complete with pristine manuals, service documents, Irish tourist plates, tools, and jack. The longtime owner attests that the original paint on this 911 saw rain only twice – when he encountered unexpected weather – and that the car was never driven over 80 mph.
Exceedingly rare in its current state, this irreplaceable 911 stands as testament to the inherent quality of a Porsche. If the next owner chooses to prepare it for the highest levels of preservation-class concours events and present it for the first time, this 911 might provide the experience of a lifetime.
