By the early 1970s, Porsche AG chairman Ernst Fuhrmann was shifting the automaker’s racing program in a new direction. Although the 917 program had dominated world competition, it had been fantastically expensive, and the company decided the 911 would play a larger role in its future racing endeavors. Learning from their turbocharged 917/30, Porsche engineers were tasked with creating a turbocharged 911 for homologation purposes. When they complained a turbo would never fit within the car’s cramped engine bay, Mr. Fuhrmann famously retorted, “Make it fit.” When the Porsche 930 debuted at the Paris motor show in October 1974, an automotive icon was born.

Presented in iconic Guards Red with a black interior, this stunning Porsche 930 has covered less than 2,500 miles and was one of the last 1979 examples of the 50 imported to the US before more stringent emissions regulations prevented the car from being imported again until 1986. After a period of display and storage, this example received a service in 2014 by a marque expert that included fresh fluids, filters, and a new fuel tank. The 930 benefits from Porsche’s ongoing model development – a displacement increase to 3.3 liters, air-to-air intercooler, 917 derived brakes, firmer shocks, anti-roll bars, and larger rear torsion bars. Offered with manuals, receipts, and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this highly original example with extremely low miles and matching-numbers engine is a rare and exciting find worthy of any serious Porsche collection.
