Produced from 1973 until 1980, the 450 SL features the 4.5-liter V-8 engine, offering a top speed of 135 mph, and presents a harmonious courtship of understated prestige with sporty flamboyance. Such was the Mercedes- Benz’s popularity and visual appeal that it was chosen for many big-screen presentations, perhaps most famously in American Gigolo when it was driven by Richard Gere to Blondie’s “Call Me.”
But this car has its own claim to fame. One of few 450 SLs delivered directly to the US for sale during the model’s final year, it is believed by its current owner to be completely original with only one previous owner, Arnold Cook of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, who purchased the car new from the local Mercedes-Benz dealership. In Classic White (DB 737) with a Dark Blue (DB 904) top and dark blue leather interior, this Mercedes-Benz presents as a lovely, unrestored, superbly cared-for example of a classic. Showing approximately 12,800 miles on the odometer, this exceptional 450 SL is accompanied by a plethora of service records and its data card.
Few of these 450 SL automobiles have survived in original unrestored condition. This remarkable example is a rarity and should be considered carefully by any enthusiast of the marque.
