1982 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible

The Rolls-Royce Corniche, introduced in 1971, was a development of the Mulliner Park Ward two-door versions of the Silver Shadow. In convertible form, the Corniche enjoyed an especially long production run, all the way up to 1995. The name comes from the French word corniche, meaning a coastal road along the edge of a cliff, and in particular the Grand Corniche along the French Riviera above Monaco, bringing to mind the elegance and luxury this model embodied. Powered by a 6.75-liter V-8 engine with fully independent, self-leveling suspension and disc brakes all around, the Corniche also received notable updates in 1977. These included rack and pinion steering, an aluminum radiator, and Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection.

This Corniche, finished in Porcelain White over a Tan leather interior, was purchased new by the consignor from Continental Classic Motors of Hinsdale, Illinois, on November 3, 1982. A doctor and Rolls-Royce enthusiast who had already owned a Silver Cloud II Drophead Coupe (Lot 31) since 1974, the consignor has added over 80,000 miles of enjoyable motoring on his beloved Corniche over the years. In 1984, the car was completely repainted under warranty to correct the cracked and blemished paint, which was a common problem on Rolls-Royce of the era. The car is accompanied by over 80 pages of records from the RROC that document his care, as well as other service records.
