Coachwork by Scaglietti
This lovely example of Ferrari’s fuel-injected Berlinetta Boxer benefits from minimal use by just two owners from new. This 512 BBi was purchased new in 1983 from Ferrari of Houston by Hobart Teneff of Spokane, Washington. He drove it sparingly and parked it in 1987, having covered just under 3,600 miles. It remained in storage for 20 years until 2007, when the consignor purchased it.
In 2009, Symbolic Motor Car Company of San Diego was retained to perform the mechanical work it required after 20 years of static storage. This included dismantling the engine, inspecting it, and replacing any seals and bearings as necessary, as well as performing a 30,000-mile service. The consignor subsequently drove the car sparingly, bringing it up to its current mileage, which remains under 5,800. The consignor, a noted Ferrari collector who has owned some of the marque’s rarest and most important examples, states that the 512 BBi retains the vast majority of its original paint along with its original interior. In addition, in 2018, he had Ferrari specialist Steve Maxwell perform a major engine-out service, including timing belts and a new water pump. Records on file total over $65,000 for mechanical work performed since 2009.
With just two owners from new, a classic color combination, and its factory accessories, this is a beautiful and very low-mileage example of Ferrari’s iconic Berlinetta Boxer.
