It’s not often a car linked to one of the all-time greatest racing drivers comes on the market. Offered here is a very special 1983 Porsche 930 originally owned by legendary Belgian racing driver Jacky Ickx. Known as “Monsieur Le Mans” for his record six wins, Ickx was an essential member of the Porsche factory team, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times for the company.
Given his on-track success with turbocharged Porsches, it is no surprise that Jacky Ickx chose a 930 as his personal road car. After all, the Turbo was Porsche’s top-of-the-line model and one of the fastest automobiles in the world in 1983. As documented by a Certificate of Authenticity, this European-specification 930 was finished entirely in black and equipped with rare and desirable factory options including leather sport seats, air-conditioning, limited slip differential, Blaupunkt stereo, electric sunroof, and model designation delete.
Since Ickx’s ownership, this 930 has been maintained in excellent original condition by a limited number of American owners, most recently an advertising executive who first spotted the car in a New York Times classified and retained it for nearly 30 years before selling it to the consignor. Today, the car remains in excellent original order, displaying less than 39,000 miles on the odometer, and is accompanied by its original handbooks and key fob, both bearing the legendary Ickx name. The chance to own and drive Jacky Ickx’s very own 930 may well be the opportunity of a lifetime.
