The 365 GT4 BB – or Berlinetta Boxer – was Ferrari’s first mid-engine, flat 12-cylinder road car, which replaced the hallowed 365 GTB/4 Daytona at the top of the company’s lineup. Ferrari issued updates throughout production and, in 1981, it introduced the last and ultimate derivation, the 512 BBi, with the “i” denoting Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection.
This matching-numbers 512 BBi is stated to be one of 141 produced for the final model year, and the 11th from last built. Originally retailed through Jacques Swaters’ Garage Francorchamps in Belgium, this Ferrari was sold new to Leon Cornell of Rhode Island and subsequently federalized by the Amerispec Corporation of Danbury, Connecticut.
Marque specialists Ferrari of Houston completed a comprehensive two-year restoration of this car to original specifications in 2016; receipts totaling more than $125,000 accompany the sale. The engine, transmission, and drivetrain were removed and refurbished, the body was refinished in its original Argento Nürburgring, and the interior trimmed in black leather. As such, this car presents superbly throughout. The 512 BBi is supplied with its original Pioneer radio, manuals, tool kit, spare wheel, Ferrari Classiche Certification, Massini report, and additional documentation.
With timeless Pininfarina styling, excellent road manners, and brilliant performance, the sale of this 512 BBi represents a wonderful opportunity to acquire a correctly restored example of an increasingly desirable Ferrari model.
