In 1983, Ferrari facilitated the sale of the powerful European-only 512 BBi model directly to North American buyers, easing the process of federalization for customers. This well-documented example retains its conversion paperwork, further bolstering a desirable history of sparing use.
Chassis 49805 was purchased on May 24, 1984, from Monaco Motors in Monaco by Paul Anthony Novelly, the CEO of Apex Oil in St. Louis, Missouri. Imported through New York City and converted for federally approved use a month later, this example was retained by Mr. Novelly for several years before passing to two California-based owners. By June 2006, the BBi was acquired by Dr. Rodolfo Domingo of Islip, New York. Over the next two years, Dr. Domingo retained Berlinetta Motorcars of nearby Huntington to conduct a number of measures, including rebuilding the steering rack and suspension elements, and installing a new Ansa exhaust system and drilled pedals.
In late 2014, the Ferrari received a major belt service from the respected Boston Sportscar Company, and it was acquired shortly thereafter by the consignor. Displaying less than 13,500 km, this 512 BBi is accompanied by a tool kit, manuals in the proper pouch, and documentation and maintenance invoices. It is equipped with a period-correct Pioneer sound system and proper Michelin TRX tires, offering marque enthusiasts a pristine, low-mileage example of one of Maranello’s most celebrated flat-12 models.
