In production from 1971–1989, the R107 SL was the replacement for the iconic W113 Pagoda SL and ultimately had a longer production run than any other Mercedes-Benz model. Introduced in the North American market for the 1986 model year, the final iteration 560 SL arrived replete with amenities including a 5.5-liter M117 V-8, four-speed automatic transmission, limited-slip differential, automatic climate control, a luxurious interior, and both hard and soft tops.
This Mercedes-Benz 560 SL was purchased new by its first of three known owners from Ascot Imported Cars of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, in March 1986. In 2016, the current owner treated this example to a recommissioning by Competition Motors of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with receipts on file for more than $7,800 for servicing, replacing a myriad of mechanical components, and detailing. More recently, marque specialist Paul Russell and Company of Essex, Massachusetts, has attended to the car. Finished in elegant black over black leather accented by burl-wood trim across the dash and center console, this very original 560 SL showed less than 39,000 miles at the time of cataloguing.
This low-mileage R107 560 SL is accompanied by manuals, tools, original-equipment Becker Grand Prix cassette radio, matching hardtop, and factory rolling storage rack and cover. Presenting very nicely and benefiting from expert maintenance, this classic Mercedes-Benz roadster is ready for many more years of open-air motoring.
