Consistent with its rich traditions, Mercedes-Benz constantly refined and updated the R107-generation SL series, which remained in production for nearly 20 years. Powered by a 5.6-liter V-8 developing 227 hp, the 560 SL was the ultimate expression of the concept, available from 1985 through 1989. Despite being equipped with more luxury amenities than previous SLs, performance remained brisk, with acceleration from rest to 60 mph in just 8.0 seconds, en route to a 137-mph top speed. As always, Mercedes-Benz SL ownership, particularly in reference to the 560 SL, clearly signified one had indeed “arrived,” and this enviable cachet continues unchanged today.

Complemented by both hard and soft tops, this 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL handsomely marks the final- and lowest-production year for the R107. A former California vehicle with mileage and maintenance progressively recorded on the corresponding CARFAX report, this 560 SL was acquired by the consignor in January 2013 and now shows just 22,015 miles at time of cataloguing.

Handsomely finished in white with dark blue upholstery, this 560 SL features air-conditioning and a Becker Grand Prix AM/FM cassette stereo unit with power antenna. In addition, two top tools, a tool roll, roadside jack, a spare alloy wheel and tire with instruction card attached, and spare keys accompany the sale. A wonderful example of an unqualified design benchmark, this 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL is a compelling find, worthy of continued enjoyment and appreciation.
