Following an unanticipated delay in manufacture, the world anxiously awaited the Porsche 964’s release. Chief Designer Anatole “Tony” Lapine needed something exciting to assuage the Porsche faithful as they waited. Drawing upon influences of the beloved 356 Speedster and previous styling exercises, Lapine fitted the excellent 911 Carrera 3.2 with a lowered, rakish windshield and an unlined, manually folding soft top. The top stowed behind the seats beneath a unique fiberglass tonneau cover to create a true two-seat 911. The result was a low, wide, lightweight, open car, which became an instant classic. Collectors immediately rushed to acquire them, often for well above their intended sticker price. Porsche built 2,065 Speedsters for the 1989 model year, with 823 of them destined for the US market.
Always maintained in the hands of knowledgeable Porsche collectors, this exceptionally preserved Speedster has covered less than 6,400 miles from new. Wide-body turbo-look curves finished in brilliant Grand Prix White over beige leather sport seats present an elegant silhouette. Additional factory options include air-conditioning, automatic speed control, Blaupunkt Charleston radio, alarm, and a luggage compartment trimmed in black velour.
In addition to a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, the car is offered with its original handbooks, tool kit, and jack. This beautifully presented 911 Speedster will be a welcome addition to any Porsche collection and is sure to delight enthusiasts with its refined performance and sporting character.
