Since its introduction, BMW’s E30 M3 has been recognized as one of the most important modern performance cars. Its genesis was the homologation of a new car for Group A racing. The result was overall superiority. In 1987, the M3 reportedly won seven touring car championships, two rally titles, and the Corsican round of the World Rally Championship. By outright victories, it is said to be the most successful road racing car of all time.

The M3 was also a wildly popular road car, and several rare versions were produced, such as the convertible on offer. Never exported to the US, M3 Convertibles were hand-built to European specifications. This exceptional example is one of just 476 produced with the more powerful 215 bhp S14 engine for the model’s final year.

Beautifully finished in Diamond Black Metallic and showing approximately 80,000 km (50,000 miles), the M3 is believed to have had just one private owner prior to the consignor’s acquisition. Its German Fahrzeugbrief shows the M3 was generally taken off the road for the winter months, and it is currently titled in the US. In 2016, the M3 was comprehensively serviced at BMW Classic AG in Munich, thoroughly detailed by a specialist, and fitted with a new convertible top and tires. The hood was expertly repainted to correct what the consignor believed to be a tree sap stain. Accompanied by invoices, M3 dealer catalogue, and a tool kit, this is an outstanding and rare example of BMW’s famed M3.
