Few classic roadsters are as revered as the Porsche Speedster, the most sporting body style offered on the 356 between 1954 and 1958. The “Speedster” nameplate has become so revered that Porsche has occasionally repurposed it for limited-production 911 models.
After the Carrera 3.2 Speedster of 1989, the nomenclature went on hiatus until the 1993 Detroit Motor Show. There, Porsche introduced a new Speedster built on the type 964 Carrera 2 platform that integrated an unprecedented degree of luxury, including power windows and any interior options available on the Carrera 2. The 964 Speedster featured a hand-cranked ragtop and lightweight racing bucket seats in keeping with the model’s original philosophy.
This beautiful 964 Speedster is believed to be one of only 409 examples built for the US market, and one of just two finished in the custom-color combination of metallic silver paint over a black interior. Documented with a full service history, this rare open Porsche benefits from the care of just three custodians and is accompanied by books, tools, and the original window sticker. The Speedster received a major service in April 2014, at which time a new set of tires were mounted.
As the Speedster moniker will always impress, this more recent edition offers the opportunity to acquire a pristine and ideally maintained example of a rare open Porsche that can be enjoyed on weekend outings or admired at marque gatherings.
