Approaching its centennial in 2003, Ford sought projects to celebrate great moments in its history, none more gratifying than the GT40’s 1-2-3 sweep of Le Mans in 1966 and repeat overall wins from 1967 to 1969. Designed by Camilo Pardo under the guidance of J Mays, Ford unveiled the GT40 concept car to tremendous critical acclaim at the 2002 Detroit Auto Show.
From the outset, this limited-production model was destined to be a true American supercar. Based on a lightweight aluminum space frame with aluminum bodywork, mid-mounted 550 bhp 5.4-liter 32-valve supercharged DOHC V-8, and Ricardo six-speed transaxle, the new GT’s power was astounding. With outstanding mid-engine handling characteristics, ferocious braking, and Ford reliability, the GT outperformed many of its supercar contemporaries.
This 2006 Ford GT has traveled just over 1,700 miles from new and was serviced by an authorized dealer on July 7, 2016. A desirable four-option example, it boasts a McIntosh sound system, Le Mans-style racing stripes, red painted brake calipers, and forged aluminum wheels. Its black finish with silver stripes pays homage to the 1966 Le Mans winning GT40, 1046, which will be displayed on the lawn at the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®.
Offered with records, car cover, and battery charger, this Ford GT presents the successful bidder the opportunity to own a properly maintained, low-mileage, high-horsepower legend.
