For the SLR, the road-going collaboration between racing partners McLaren and Mercedes-Benz, the two companies joint-engineered a blisteringly quick, handsome, and comfortable supercar. With its front-mounted AMG exhaust exiting just behind the front wheels, the roadster version afforded an even more visceral soundtrack for both pilot and passenger.

Hand-assembled by AMG, the roadster’s all-aluminum alloy, 90° V-8, dry sump engine utilized a Lysholm-type twin-screw intercooled supercharger to achieve 617 bhp and 575 lbs./ft. of torque. With a carbon fiber monocoque chassis made at McLaren’s F1 factory in Woking, England, the SLR was the perfect marriage of Mercedes-Benz style, AMG performance, and Formula 1 technology.

Complementing the SLR was an array of innovation. A semiautomatic fabric soft top opened in less than 10 seconds at the touch of a button. An electrohydraulic anti-lock brake system utilized lightweight ceramic rotors. A four-position active aerodynamic rear spoiler deployed for better braking and handling. Inside sat leather-wrapped carbon fiber sport seats and a Bose stereo optimized by Mercedes’ top-down aeroacoustics.

The car offered here, a late-production example, is simply stunning in its tripleblack scheme and 19" alloy turbine wheels. With less than 350 miles from new, this limited-edition SLR offers intoxicating performance in spectacular style, as only befits this unique collaboration between two motoring legends.
