Introduced in 2007, the performance-oriented Porsche 997 GT3 RS built upon the foundations of its 996 forebear and served to homologate its racing counterparts for the FIA sports car racing series they were named for. Porsche’s continuous improvements yielded the GT3 RS 4.0, which was built in a run of 600 units in 2011.

Overseen by Andreas Preuninger, Porsche’s director of GT car development, the GT3 RS 4.0 was comprehensively improved over previous models. Making their first appearance on a production Porsche, air deflector vanes mounted on either side of the front bumper increased downforce on the front axle. In conjunction with a more steeply inclined rear wing, the aerodynamically enhanced GT3 RS 4.0 was effectively pushed to the road with an additional 426 pounds of downforce at its 193 mph top speed.

The largest displacement 911 engine to date, the 4.0-liter M97 flat-six used forged pistons, titanium connecting rods, and the crankshaft from the 997 GT3 RSR race car. Delivering a stout 500 hp at 8,250 rpm and 339 lbs./ft. of torque, the engine set new benchmarks for a naturally aspirated 911 powerplant.

To pare weight, the GT3 RS 4.0 was equipped with lightweight carpet and carbon fiber bucket seats, front fenders, and hood. Weighing in at 2,998 pounds “wet” with fuel, Porsche claimed the new model weighed 200 pounds less than the outgoing car.

Combined with numerous suspension refinements and equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox with shorter gearing optimized for racetrack duty, Porsche claimed 0–60 mph in 3.8 seconds and 124 mph in 12 seconds. In June 2011, Britain’s EVO magazine stated, “It is the ultimate 911, and you could easily argue it’s all the car you’ll ever need. It will become an icon.”

One of 158 earmarked for the North American market, this 2011 997 GT3 RS 4.0 was delivered new to its first owner in Los Angeles in March 2012, according to an accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report. It was then sold to a private buyer in Florida in 2017, before being purchased by the consignor. Finished in Carrara White over a contrasting black leather interior, this RS was outfitted with Porsche ceramic composite brakes, Sport Chrono Package Plus, adaptive sport seats, PCM 3.0 with extended navigation, XM radio, extended carbon package, and a front-axle lifting system – with a total MSRP of $229,795.

Showing few signs of use today, this amazing GT3 RS 4.0 displays under 2,100 miles from new and is accompanied by its books, tools, cover, and DME report. Still very capable of providing exceptional performance on and off the track, this well-optioned example will surely delight the most discerning of collectors.
