Ferrari’s 488, introduced in 2015, continued the long line of mid-engine road cars dating back to the introduction of the Dino in 1967. The 488 was a direct successor to the 458, but was much improved, notably featuring a turbocharged V-8, the first time this configuration had been used since the legendary F40. The all-alloy 3.9-liter V-8, utilizing two twin-scroll turbochargers, generates 661 bhp, propelling the car from 0-60 mph in three seconds and on to a top speed of 205 mph. Other notable features include improved carbon ceramic brakes derived from the LaFerrari and bodywork that generated 50% more downforce than the 458. The 488 Spider features a retractable hardtop in place of a traditional soft top, retaining the sleek lines of the coupe and adding structural rigidity.

This stunning example was specially designed by Ferrari’s Tailor Made program. Started in 2011, the Tailor Made program continues the longstanding Maranello tradition which began in the 1950s, a time when clients personalized their cars and enjoyed huge freedom when it came to materials, colors, and finish. The result was genuinely unique cars tailored to suit the desires of each individual owner. That prestigious past has now been revived through a program that permits owners to specify every last detail of their Ferrari, from the exterior livery color to the cabin trim, via a completely unprecedented choice of finishes, accessories, materials, treatments, and colors. Owners are invited to Maranello and are assisted and guided through the selection process by their own personal designer who is charged with guaranteeing that the resulting cars are both unique and consistent with the Ferrari brand and its tradition.

Since the Tailor Made program began, Ferrari has created small, themed collections that celebrate various aspects of its history. In the case of this example, Ferrari celebrates aspects of the very basis of life itself, as this 488 is part of its four-car “Force of Nature” series, celebrating the four elements: earth, wind, water, and fire.

As an informational placard about this car reads: “Water has always been seen as the primal source of life and the element of emotion. It is all powerful in shaping the earth and its ability to extinguish fire. The blue and white metallic exterior of this Tailor-Made 488 Spider brings to life the cool and singularly focused power of water.”

Highly personalized with an extensive list of tailor-made features, the 488 is finished in a four-layer paint finish of Blue Metallic with white accents and complemented by its Peccary Beige and Blue Sterling leather interior. The exterior features carbon fiber accents, including the steering wheel, in the color of Blue Lucido. The 488 also features 20" forged wheels, a sport exhaust system and a parking camera, among many other special trim features.

Purchased new through Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale by the consignor, a discerning collector of Italian automobiles, it had been driven just 61 miles at the time of cataloging. Offered with its window sticker and factory books, tool kit, and accessories, this is a very rare opportunity to acquire a singular modern classic that embodies the rich tradition of the bespoke Ferrari.
