Oil on Canvas
24" by 36"
This original oil painting was created by one of the world’s leading motoring artists, Tim Layzell, for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® main event poster. In his compelling artwork, Mr. Layzell offers an homage to the Motor Cars of the Raj, one of Pebble Beach’s featured classes this year. Rolls-Royce, an influential marque in India during the first half of the 20th century, graces the spotlight of the elegant piece.
Showcased are two notable cars from the British Raj period – the 1935 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Gurney Nutting Streamline Coupé, owned by Amir Ali Jetha and previously owned by the Maharaja of Jodhpur, as well as the 1921 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost James & Co. Open Tourer owned by Yuvraj Kesri Singh of Wankaner, India.
Through the years, Mr. Layzell’s paintings have become highly collectible, as he has been commissioned by motoring’s highest levels to create artwork for display throughout the world at such prominent events as the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Monaco Grand Prix, as well as in many major publications. He has long been a favorite at Pebble Beach, where he has been designing the official RetroAuto™ posters since 2009, but this is the first time he has created the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® main event poster.
Gooding & Company is pleased to announce that proceeds from the sale of this artwork, Motor Cars of the Raj at Pebble Beach, will benefit the Pebble Beach Company Foundation.
