In 1913, Louis Delage established a fine new factory in the Parisian suburb of Courbevoie, giving his company independence from proprietary engine suppliers. That same year, Delage launched the all-new AI and AK series. While the AI was powered by a four-cylinder engine, the top-of-the-line AK model featured a 2,669 cc inline six designed by Arthur Michelat and his assistant Maurice Gaultier, rated at 27 CV. The new Type AK represented the firm’s first foray into the luxury car market, as its increased power and new four-speed gearbox allowed the fitment of more luxurious custom coachwork.

For 1915, the AK was succeeded by the BK, which was available in two distinct chassis lengths. Although production was interrupted by WWI, when the Delage factory turned its machinery over to the manufacture of shells for the French army, the BK remained in production through 1918.

This Type BK, chassis 6344, features attractive open Torpédo-style coachwork and was formerly part of the famed Schlumpf Reserve Collection. According to records on file, Fritz Schlumpf acquired the car in 1962 from Ets. Malartre, a dealer in Lyon, France. The Delage remained in static storage in Malmerspach, France, until 2008, when it was acquired by the Mullin Collection and relocated to California.

One of only a few known to survive, this rare six-cylinder Delage is a fascinating example of this important French marque and an ideal candidate for restoration.

*Please note that all of the Lots in this Auction have been in long-term static storage at the Mullin Automotive Museum and may not be currently operational. They will require mechanical attention and in some cases significant restoration prior to any road use.
