1924 Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost Boattail Speedster

In 1967, automotive engineer C.L. “Connie” Bouchard embarked on a decade-long project to create his ultimate Silver Ghost. Chassis 7LM served as the platform for this project and Bouchard himself rebuilt the engine and mechanical components. Dave Holls, then a chief designer at General Motors, penned the sporting boattail design with Harold Philpot, founder of the Philpot School of Automotive Body Drafting, charged with body engineering draft responsibilities. Creation of the dashing, all-aluminum body was entrusted to British artisan Tony Robinson.

Making its debut at the RROC National Meet, 7LM was awarded the Scher trophy for Best Silver Ghost. It was featured in a two-part RROC The Flying Lady article, then as Road & Track’s June 1978 Salon feature authored by Strother MacMinn. In 1990, 7LM was exhibited at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®. The Silver Ghost features black nitrocellulose paintwork set off by a polishedaluminum hood with the rear deck finished in teakwood which also surrounds the black leathertrimmed cockpit. As a boattail speedster, 7LM has realized its full potential, matching the legendary Silver Ghost chassis with exciting, sporting coachwork recalling the glamour of the Roaring Twenties. Its overdrive, luggage compartment, and weather gear make this stunning centenarian an ideal candidate for open-road touring.
