During the 1920s, France enjoyed a golden age of light, agile, and very fast small-displacement voiturettes with many fiercely competitive marques. Among them was the Automobiles Rally of Colombes-sur-Seine, just northwest of Paris. Beginning with cyclecar origins using Harley-Davidson V-twin engines, Rally soon progressed to four-cylinder Ruby, C.I.M.E., Chapuis-Dornier, S.C.A.P., and Salmson engines. Befitting the marque’s purposeful name, Rally entries competed in the 1932 and 1933 Mille Miglia, and took class wins in the Tour de France and Rallye Féminin Paris-Saint Raphaël. Outlasting many of its competitors, Rally existed until 1933, ending a wonderful motor sports era.

Simply captivating in its design, this 1927 Rally ABC features sleek, tapered-tail bodywork and innovative engineering features, including a low chassis with underslung rear axle and advanced Perrot-type brakes. According to known history, this ABC was raced by its second owner, and soon after WWII ended, the car was modified. It received a longer hood, 2.2-liter English Ford flathead V8-60 engine, and a stronger Bugatti rear axle, transforming its performance capabilities. Following importation to the US in 1997, the Rally was restored by Knute Kohlmann and fitted with a vintage 1960s Volvo four-speed gearbox. Accompanying items include a tool roll, spare parts, and an incredible wealth of documentation. Well maintained and incredibly engaging throughout, this Rally ABC completed the 1,000-mile California Mille in 2013, and exudes an adventurous character with its strong performance and desirable accessories.
