Chrysler introduced its straight-eight engine for the 1931 model year and it remained a mainstay of its premium offerings for the next 20 years. The CD series was continually upgraded during the 1931 model year and the most powerful and desirable among those is the Deluxe model, such as the example offered here. Just 511 Deluxe Sport Roadsters were built, a delightful pairing of lightweight coachwork with the larger 282 cid, straight-eight engine producing a robust 100 hp. This example is finished in a period-correct Chrysler tone of Abbott Gray with darker gray trim, complemented by a tan canvas top and leather upholstery. It is well equipped with painted wire wheels, whitewall tires, dual side mounts capped with mirrors, dual chrome horns, a tonneau cover, and a trunk rack fitted with a metal trunk.

True open-driving pleasure is provided when both the top and fold-down windshield are lowered, but its dual-purpose nature is revealed with the top raised and side curtains installed, protecting front-seat passengers from the elements. The rumble seat provides occasional seating for two additional passengers who benefit from the rare, rear-windscreen option.

This car was professionally restored around 2015 and has since been well cared-for and used sparingly by a Chrysler enthusiast. The Deluxe CD model is an excellent representation of Walter P. Chrysler’s engineering brilliance and this well-accessorized Sport Roadster promises spirited touring in open or closed form.
