1953 Jaguar XK120 SE Roadster

Introduced in 1948, the Jaguar XK120 was an instant commercial success and a favorite among up-and-coming racing drivers at US venues such as Watkins Glen and Pebble Beach. From 1951 to 1954, Jaguar offered the high-performance SE (Special Equipment) trim level, featuring a higher compression ratio and more aggressive camshafts, boosting output to 180 hp from the standard 160. Additional SE equipment included wire wheels, dual exhaust, and upgraded suspension with stiffer dampers.

This XK120 SE Roadster was constructed on January 8, 1953. A left-hand-drive example finished in pastel green with a suede green leather interior, the car was originally dispatched to Charles Hornburg’s dealership in Los Angeles, California, as documented by its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate on file.

While its earliest provenance remains unknown, the Jaguar was acquired by the consignor’s father more than four decades ago. Early in the family’s ownership, the Roadster reportedly received a light cosmetic restoration in its factory colors, and today the interior possesses a gentle and inviting patina. Significantly, this Roadster retains its matchingnumbers cast-iron engine block and aluminum cylinder head. Accompanied by side curtains, spare wheel, jack, and a tonneau cover, this XK120 SE Roadster is ideally specified and eligible for premier driving events such as the Colorado Grand.
