1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 Drophead Coupe

This DB2/4 Drophead Coupe was built on June 18, 1954, and finished in ivory with a red interior, according to a copy of its BMIHT certificate on file. The Aston’s first owner was William R. Vincent, founder of British coachbuilder Vincent’s of Reading. The firm constructed bodies for Rolls- Royce, Sunbeam, and Austin, among others. The Drophead had a few more owners in England until the late 1960s, when it was imported to the US by J.I. Akselsen of Columbus, Georgia. The consignor acquired the car in unrestored but remarkably complete condition in 1981.

The consignor entrusted BritSport of Seattle, Washington, to refinish the car in its as-delivered color scheme, with an interior trimmed by Classic Interior Restorations. The replacement engine, fitted during previous ownership, was rebuilt by Aston specialist Kevin Kay Restorations to Mk III specifications, with upgrades that included more aggressive camshafts, higher compression pistons, larger valves, and an uprated oil pump. For increased usability, a Tremec five-speed gearbox was installed, though an original four-speed unit accompanies the car. Following the restoration, the DB2/4 was exhibited at many concours events across the Pacific Northwest, often earning Best in Class. Accompanied by a spare set of wheels, an instruction book, and extensive restoration records and awards, this DB2/4 Drophead Coupe would make an excellent car for vintage rallies and concours events.
