1960 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL

Conceived from Max Hoffman’s vision of a stylish, approachable companion to the 300 SL, the 190 SL Roadster was launched at the 1955 Geneva Motor Show and sold alongside the 300 SL until 1963. In all, 25,881 of the 190 SLs were built, 70% of which were exported to the US. At $3,998, the 190 SL was approximately half the price of the Gullwing.

This example, built in 1960, presents beautifully in this wonderful and rarely seen Hellgrun (Light Green, DB274) with contrasting red leather interior and dark green German canvas top – a classic and eye-catching combination. While there is minimal documentation of provenance, it is believed that the car has had an unusually limited ownership, with the first owner retaining the car from 1960 to 2010, when it was acquired from his family. The car was restored in the early 2010s by Platinum Restoration of Pompano Beach, Florida, who undertook a substantial restoration process. The car is accompanied by a custom three-piece luggage set in tan and red leather, tools, books, and service and parts receipts.
