Following the company’s successful 1959 entry into the US market with the CA92 and CA95, Honda looked to demonstrate their performance and competition potential and introduced the CB92 Super Sport for the 1962 model year. This model is widely regarded as Honda’s first sport bike, and despite the CB92’s modest 124 cc displacement, it was festooned with technical advancements that made it not only a wonderful road bike, but also a potent racing machine. Advancements over the similar CA92 included many engine changes, including a different crankcase, crankshaft, pistons, rods, valves, and carburetor, as well as unique, leading-shoe brakes with magnesium hubs. Power was up to 15 hp from the C92’s 11.5, and this peaked at 10,500 rpm. The CB92’s top speed peaked at an impressive 72 mph.

The beautiful example of the CB92 offered here was purchased by the consignor in 1999 from the family of North Carolina resident and Honda expert Scott Williams, who had restored the bike for his personal collection. Significantly, this CB92 has been fitted with Honda’s Racing Kit, which was available from new for those that wanted to use their CB92 for competition. A copy of factory literature on file notes components that are part of the kit, including pistons, spark plug, 14-tooth drive sprocket, camshaft and exhaust valve, 14,000 rpm tachometer, seat, and megaphone exhaust pipes, among others.

Rare and significant, this ultimate-specification CB92 Super Sport has been carefully stored for 25 years in current ownership, and ridden occasionally. It stands as a tremendous opportunity for those that appreciate the performance heritage that makes Honda’s earliest motorcycles so intriguing.
