This 356 SC Coupe was completed on July 29, 1964 and finished in Ivory with a contrasting black interior, according to a copy of its Kardex on file. The Kardex also lists an optional fresh air blower. This top-of-the-line 356 was built for the European market and was sold new through Porsche dealer Sonauto of Paris to Christian Renet of Bellegarde in northern France. The car’s subsequent early provenance is not known, but at some time the original engine was replaced with another SC engine, numbered 812819, which remains in the car today. The car’s original transaxle, numbered 81209, remains installed.

Now finished in elegant black over a black interior with distinctive houndstooth seat inserts and upgraded with a factory-style electric sliding sunroof, this 1964 Porsche 356 SC Coupe presents as a handsome and highly desirable example of Porsche’s seminal sports car. Part of a prominent collection dedicated to Porsche history, this example was acquired by its current owner in the 1990s and has been lovingly cared for over the ensuing decades. Benefiting from attentive stewardship, recent work has included the installation of new engine compartment insulation, a new flywheel and clutch assembly, a new fuel tank, and new carburetors. Today, this final-series 356 SC stands as a compelling representation of Porsche’s first great sports car, combining the purity of the original 356 concept with the refinements born from years of continuous development.
