In the 1960s, Bruce Meyers’ iconic Meyers Manx was taking the California beach scene by storm. Not to be left behind, Florida entrepreneur Ken Allison introduced his own fiberglass-bodied dune buggy from Daytona Beach, creating an East Coast counterpart to the West Coast phenomenon. Allison’s design quickly earned a reputation for its quality construction, vibrant gelcoat finishes, and spirited performance. With its carefree styling and lively road manners, the Allison Daytona dune buggy perfectly captured the era’s enthusiasm for outdoor recreation and automotive individuality. Equally at home cruising oceanfront boulevards, exploring sandy backroads, or simply enjoying a sunny weekend, it offered East Coast enthusiasts their own distinctive expression of the dune buggy craze.
Offered today from a significant private collection, this Allison dune buggy survives in remarkably original, unrestored condition, retaining the authentic character that enthusiasts value so highly. With an estimated production of just 600 examples, surviving Allison buggies are considerably rarer than many of their West Coast contemporaries. Combining rarity, originality, and undeniable period charm, this Daytona, Florida-built buggy offers a wonderful opportunity to relive one of the most colorful and carefree chapters of American automotive culture.
