A simplified companion model to the DS, Citroën’s ID19 was introduced at the 1956 Paris Salon, one year after the DS made its debut there. Powered by a 1.9-liter engine shared with its “senior” stablemate, albeit slightly detuned, the ID19 also delivered the advantages of front-wheel drive and retained essentially the same body styling as the DS, at a lower price point. Initially, the ID19 was offered without the self-leveling hydropneumatic suspension and power-assisted brakes, clutch, and steering, plus exterior and interior trimmings of the DS; however, those niceties were gradually added to the ID19, which saw production until the 1969 advent of the Citroën D Special.

Reflecting the higher equipment, trim, and amenities applied to the ID19 and its progressive move upmarket through the 1960s, this example was acquired by the Mullin Collection in 2016. Finished in light yellow, it sports nicely contrasting brown cloth upholstery. In addition to Citroën’s famous single-spoke steering wheel, yielding uncommon visibility of the instruments for the driver, plus a signature design cue, this late-production ID19 also includes a column shifter, clock, radio, and of course, striking “cornet de frites” conical taillights to the upper-rear extremities of the vehicle.

*Please note that all of the Lots in this Auction have been in long-term static storage at the Mullin Automotive Museum and may not be currently operational. They will require mechanical attention and in some cases significant restoration prior to any road use.
