Introduced by Nissan in 1970 as a youth-oriented sports car for the US market, the Datsun 240Z offered bold styling and an exhilarating driving experience. It quickly proved itself to be a reliable and well-built sports car for everyday life, and also an affordable entry into racing, having achieved four consecutive championship SCCA victories between 1970 and 1973.
This 240Z enjoys the distinction of having been kept by its original owner since 1972 until earlier this year. An exacting and fastidious person, he purchased the car new, 50 years ago, from Gregoris Motors of Valley Stream, New York. Dedicated to keeping his 240Z in top condition, he collected numerous NOS parts, including an original exhaust system and a rarely seen set of NOS mud flaps, which have recently been installed on the car. The consignor believes that this 240Z retains its original Lime (code 112) paint, as well as its beautifully preserved black vinyl interior. Numerous clamps and fittings in the tidy engine bay are rarely seen OEM items. Over $10,000 has recently been spent making subtle improvements, bolstering the Datsun’s stock presentation.
Accompanied by its original window sticker, dealer paperwork, manuals, warranty card, and service receipts, this pristine unrestored example, surely among the best surviving early Z cars, is deserving of a place in a collection highlighting the most beloved cars of the 1970s. With so few surviving in such outstanding original condition, this 240Z presents an exciting opportunity.
