1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT

Introduced in 1969 as an evolution of Ferrari’s beloved Dino 206 GT, the Dino 246 GT combined gorgeous Pininfarina styling with a larger 2.4-liter V-6, among other improvements, creating one of the most rewarding driver’s cars of its era. Today, it remains among the most coveted Ferraris of the 1970s, admired for its beautiful proportions and exhilarating driving experience.

Completed in July 1972, this US-delivery Dino 246 GT, chassis 03966, was imported new through Chinetti-Garthwaite, Inc., of Pennsylvania, fifinished in the elegant and rare factory color combination of Grigio Ferro Metallizzato (Iron Gray Metallic) over Pelle Rossa (Red Leather) Connolly upholstery. The car’s accompanying Ferrari Classiche Red Book confifirms that the Dino retains its original chassis, along with its matching-numbers engine and transaxle, and remains in its factory color scheme. Originally specifified with the desirable options of factory air conditioning and power windows, it was a well-equipped and tastefully-ordered example.

Remarkably, chassis 03966 remained in the care of only two owners in Marietta, Georgia, for more than four decades before joining the consignor’s distinguished collection of Dinos and other Ferraris. The car was subsequently treated to a comprehensive, no-expense-spared, nut-and-bolt restoration carried out over the course of several years by renowned specialists in Maranello and Modena, Italy. Throughout the restoration, the Dino’s exceptional originality was evident, with the body found to be in outstanding condition beneath its previous fifinish. The restoration was completed to meticulous concours standards, including the use of correct Connolly leather for the interior. The extensive photo documentation illustrates the painstaking nature of the restoration and the remarkable attention devoted to the car’s presentation.

Following completion, the Dino was road-tested for approximately 200 kilometers prior to delivery to the consignor. In May 2026, the Dino was inspected by the highly regarded German Ferrari expert Laura Kukuk von Glahn of Kukuk Group, the fifirm founded 40 years ago by her highly respected father Klaus Kukuk and known for its forensic inspection and authentication services. The Kukuk Group’s report on fifile confifirms the high quality of this restored example.

The Ferrari is accompanied by its Classiche Red Book, manuals in their original leather pouch, which is embossed in gold with the original owner’s name, along with its toolkit, jack, restoration photos and records, and a gorgeous, high-quality coffffee-table book documenting the car’s history and restoration.
